Wednesday Vignette: Morning Garden Strolls

I was out in the garden early this morning to take some current wide shots for a post later this week. As the morning light started filtering through the trees to the east, highlighting plants in the Hell Garden, it looked downright heavenly. I had to share a couple scenes for Wednesday Vignette, hosted by Anna at Flutter&Hum.

I should make this a daily ritual, a morning walk through the garden with coffee or camera, at least before the rains start. I can't believe I haven't been doing this all summer! Next summer, the plants will be better established and I'll be able to enjoy the garden more and worry about watering less.
I'm so glad I started using the old pieces of cedar fencing as bed edging. Much of it is already pretty rotted, but it should last for a few years. I've only just started putting it in, but it looks great where I've already added it, like behind the California fuchsia on the left of this photo.

  1. Thanks for sharing your early morning jaunt around the garden. You should definitely make it a summertime ritual!

  3. It does indeed look great! What a fabulous repurposing idea! The Hell Garden looks fantastic - I love the Zauschneria blooms with the purplish gray of the .... uhm... salvia - or whatever it is. Just lovely! My fave time in the garden is early morning, and late afternoon, with coffee, or whatever beverage is suitable at the moment. Often, after work, I lose myself out there, and don't go back in until the mosquitos threaten to make me anemic.

    1. Yep, Salvia officinalis 'Purpurascens'! It came out of winter looking pretty ratty, but it has certainly made up for that. I like evening in the garden, too (but before the mosquitoes swarm, like you said). I don't usually get out in the morning, though. I'm usually slouched at the kitchen counter with my coffee. Time to change that!

  4. The morning light is great...but, not being much of a morning person, I make do with evening light, which is pretty swell too. The edging looks brilliant. I'd like to see some more photos of that, edging being a constant conundrum.

    1. I'll share those photos when the edging is finished. I've just got a few pieces laid out right now.

  5. Will you be staking or shaping the weeping cedar? I have one as well and it's looking great, but needs a little upkeep to make sure it looks its best.
