Wordless Wednesday: Epimedium

Comments

  1. First time here. Very, very nice!!! I love the green, forest-y background. That is some Epimedium isn't it? I love the coloration with the red splotches that look like paint specks. I don't know why I don't grow more Epis. I'm going to have to broaden my horizons. :) Thank you for commenting on my blog.

    1. Thanks, Grace! The background is a photo I took in Ohanapecosh National Park of a vine maple. I just got my first 3 epimediums, and this is one. I think it's some kind of Epi. wushanense. I love your blog! I don't always comment because I often read it on my tablet and it can be a bit cumbersome.

  2. What a beauty! I just got the first (of many, I suspect) Epimediums for our Northwest Territory. I think we finally have enough shade to grow them. So, are you gardening in the PNW or somewhere else entirely?

    1. This is one of my first epimediums, too. I'm about an hour north of Portland.

  3. I really like the splotches on the leaves, and elongated leaf shapes, plus the wonderful shiny Epi leaves. They look great with the foresty backgrounds too. Does this one grow big? I haven't gotten any special ones that seemed to grow big like plain old 'sulphureum'.

    1. Hi, Hannah. Yes, this is a large, clumping Epi. The leaves are 5 to 6 inches long and the stems can grow to about 20 inches tall. It's quite dramatic.
